During a Bible lesson, we were talking about pride, and bragging. We discussed that we should not brag about ourselves and the things we can do and the things that we have and that we have to be careful not to become proud.
All of the sudden one little boy threw his hand up in the air, "Can we brag about God?" he asked. Most of the little heads went back and forth and some of the eyes were very big as if to say "NO WAY!" But another little boy turned to his friend and he said, "Yeah, we can brag about God because he's like..." his little arms went out and his hands opened wide..." 'cause he's, like, GOD! HE's THE BEST! So we have to brag about Him!"
We all agreed that we can brag about God and, in fact, we should be excited to talk about the greatness of God. and the Holy Spirit brought Psalm 34:2 to mind, "My soul shall make her boast in the Lord..."
After a rather difficult recess, we had a little talk about being kind and not always trying to have things our own way. As I started talking about how we should try not to be so selfish, one little girl, who is usually quite quiet and soft-spoken, raised her hand. "It's kind of like that time in chapel," she said. My mind did a quick run-down of the last few chapels and I couldn't quite grasp what she was talking about. "You know," she said, "it's like 'self-sacrificial giving.' Just like when Jesus died for us."
I'm sure my head did a quick jerk and then a shake. "You're right," I said when I had recovered from having my jaw hit the ground. "You're absolutely right! We sometimes have to give up some things so others can have them."
The chapel she was referring to was in February (see post from 2/17/12). Something I had written about and since forgotten, yet the Holy Spirit brought it back through her that day.
Here are some random questions that have been asked in my room. Some of them really show some good insight, some are just funny!
When I go to heaven will I be an Israelite?
When we go to heaven, how will God know which soul is ours? Then her own answer...I know, maybe He'll write our name on it.
Miss Holstege, when will you get to preach in chapel?
Miss Holstege, what's your last name?
During singing:
"Can we sing that American song? You know the one that they do for football games?"
...and while we were learning Psalter #357, "Can we sing the song about 'golden cheese (sheaves)' ?"
