First day for the Pups!
...and the first day for the Pets!
We have six days into our kindergarten year of school, and already these kiddos have wormed their way into my heart. How sweet they are, and how fun to get to know them (and you through them).
Already, I know which ones are Michigan fans and which ones like the other one. ;) I know which girls like to play princess and which ones would just as soon play with toads. I know which ones love to color and which ones would just as soon be swimming. I've learned they love to sing and talk about God, and I can't wait to learn more.
In the first six days of school, we have already used pencils, erasers, crayons, markers, scissors, and glue sticks. We've found our lockers, our cubbies, our book bags, and our desks. We've learned how to SHINE* when it's time to sit and listen, and we've learned to raise our hand when we want to talk. We are definitely off to a good start.
Already I've heard a few things that have made me smile, but this one made me laugh: Usually, I am pretty good at keeping a straight face and taking things in stride, but today, I nearly lost it. We were talking about the number five and how God gave each of us five fingers on each hand. I asked, "Can anybody tell me something else that you have five of?" I'm thinking five toes, and so were most of the rest of the kids, but one dear and quite fit little boy quickly piped up with "I have a six-pack!" I stopped short of asking him to show us, but I was tempted. ;)
Like I said, can't wait to learn more.
*SHINE = Sit quietly, Hands folded, In our own space, No noise, Eyes on the teacher.
