Sight Words
Sight words are words that we would like to have children read by sight (not sounding out). Our list is based on the words that are most often seen in children's books. While these sight words may not be memorized in the first few weeks, you will see that your child will soon be able to read several of these.
Each week we will learn one or more sight words. We will do some activities with these words and often there will be a little book that we make with the sight words in it. Here are some things you can do at home:
o Take a look at the sight words each week and help your child notice them in the books that you read, on signs, on the bulletin at church, etc.
o Have your child read the “take-home” books that we make to go with the sight words. At first, these will be memorized, but eventually they will be reading.
o Create flash cards using the file below.
o Play Sight Word Bingo using the bingo file below.
