Today was Book Character Day, and what a group of characters we had! The kinders were so excited this morning when they came in. We used our gym time this morning to do a little fashion show with all of the kindergartners "walking the runway" and telling what their character was and then we had a story by Mrs. Pastoor as the cat in If You Give A Cat A Cupcake and one from me as Amelia Bedelia. I'm not sure if the kids realized they were missing gym, but we just couldn't quite risk the twisted ankles from Cinderella slippers and loose apron ties. Here are a few pictures from our fun day! (Sorry, it's really hard to get good pictures in the gym.)
I love this time of year! We have learned so much and are so comfortable with each other and in the classroom. It's fun to see the kids starting to read on their own and sound out words when they read and write. They are truly excited about books and reading. (One boy even said I wish I could have my desk in the Bok Nook. I love books!) This past week we started partner reading with books that we can actually read ourselves. It is so fun to hear their enthusiasm. You can almost hear their confidence building when you hear comments like "I love that book." "That book was easy!" or "You should pick that one next time." With March being Reading Month, we have a lot of exciting days coming up. I'll try to take and share pictures with you often. Here are a few from this week. Our theme for reading month is Reading Rodeo. Here are some pictures from "Horsing Around With a Carrot and a Good Book" Day.
